Description

There is a big difference between debating and relating. The afterthoughts of a debate are focused on the win and the loss. The afterthoughts from a conversation where the intent was relating are endless. These conversations can bring new awareness, understanding of self and others and decrease feelings of isolation. This week’s conversation with Dr. Rahuldeep Gill was recorded on Friday, September 28th 2018 at the exact time the decision was being made to open up an investigation on Judge Brett Kavanaugh.

Show Highlights

Stephanie and Dr. Rahuldeep Gill reflect on politics and relating norms while emphasizing how important it is to make time for conversation.

Dr. Gill talks about how we can make the world more suitable for human life.

Backstory Behind Stephanie and Guest

“I learned about Dr. Gill via an article he wrote on LinkedIn called “There’s Nothing “Soft” About Soft Skills.” The conversations he leads on community building, interfaith dialog, and cross-cultural relations are conversations I want to participate in. He carries a heavy load of knowledge with hope and optimism. I sleep better at night knowing people like Dr. Ruhuldeep Gill are in the world doing their thing to educate and unite us.” –  Stephanie Michele

Social Challenge of the Week

The Social Challenge for the Week: Check-In Communication

It is safe to assume the people in your life are experiencing some sort of trauma. It could be personal, a response to something in the media, or something they are not completely aware of yet. With this context, how can we do better to support each other when we get together? Explore the answer to that question by considering new questions to ask during social check-ins. Some questions to consider:

  • What has your attention right now? – Is it something you want to talk about?
  • What kind of conversation are you available for right now?
  • What do you need to talk about?
