View Count: 1,836

Description

Stephanie and Nicole Robertson, founder of Sway Society talk about fast fashion and how to stay fashionable while resisting the desire to purchase new and inexpensive pieces.

Show Highlights

Stephanie talks about the seduction and cost of convenience.

Nicole shares her knowledge and concerns regarding the fashion industry and what she decided to do about it. Did you know on average 100 people touched the garment you are wearing before you purchased it? Now try to figure out how a garment could be under $50 knowing how many people were involved in getting that garment to you.

Nicole issues a bonus social challenge by encouraging a slow fashion summer. The rules: you’re allowed to trade clothes and buy second-hand – just no new clothes.

Backstory Behind Stephanie and Guest

I reached out to Nicole after learning about Swap Society. I appreciate how she encourages people to take whatever step they are willing to take when it comes to making more envirormental-friendly choices. –  Stephanie Michele

Social Challenge of the Week

Label Check Challenge

Check the label on five pieces of clothing that you wear the most. Where were your clothes made? Google that country and garment industry (example: “garment industry in Bangladesh”) to learn more about the region, the people who live there and what workers in the garment industry are experiencing.  Don’t like what you learn? Use resources above to learn about sustainable clothing brands, buying second-hand clothing and swapping. Also, research clothing brands that are made in your local area.
