Backstory Behind Stephanie and Guest

I was introduced to Maceo via Ethan, The Love Extremist. I appreciate Maceo’s mind and heart. His concerns and compassion for our world are matched by his wisdom for how things work and where change is needed. It is comforting to know that Maceo’s work and words are inspiring leadership and action. –  Stephanie Michele

Social Challenge of the Week

24-Hour Active Listening Challenge

Before starting this challenge, determine if you are in “listening” or “talking” mode most of the time.

If you are the talker – plan to be the listener for 24-hours. Communicate to the people you interact with the most your intention for being in listening mode for 24-hours. With in-person conversations, give non-verbal cues you are listening. Acknowledge digital communication, with “message received” confirmations and a commitment to get back to people after the 24- hours are up.

If you are the listener – plan to be the talker for 24-hours. Communicate to the people you interact with the most, your intention for speaking up more. Try asking more questions. Share what you know when it is relevant to topics of discussion. Communicate how you personally feel. Lead a conversation on a new topic.

When the 24-hours are up, take some time to reflect on what the experience was like for you.

BONUS CHALLENGE: Do this exercise with a friend or partner where you each take 24 hours to be the listener while the other is a talker and then switch roles for the next 24 hours. After the 48 hours are up, discuss what the experience was like for you.
